In this day and age, there are an amazing array of materials that you can use to replace your roof. One of the most remarkable which is virtually apart of every roofing system is: metal.

Aluminum, lead, zinc, stainless, copper and steel complete the roof as fasteners, flashings, edgings, hatches, vents, expansion joints, and drains. It’s safe to say that metal is a key component for the roofing industry.

Metal has always proved itself as one of the number one products that is strong, long-lasting, weatherproof, versatile, attractive, expensive and inexpensive. Hold up- What were those last two words? How can material be cheap and costly at the same time? Let’s talk about that.

First, the costly vs cheap reference isn’t the contrast between galvanized steel, and zinc or copper. Moreover, I am not alluding to just any utilization of metal, but particularly metal used as a roof covering. To further clarify, I am referring to the “king” of metals: steel

Imagine if you were to drive to a higher end of town where they seem to have mansions; metal roofs litter the area because the metal roof is architecturally appropriate in a way that many other roofing materials simply couldn’t match. Most of us don’t live in mansions, yet…but everyone needs a roof that stands the test of time.  Metal roofing products are now available that match virtually any look required, in the past metal was unable to yield the proper look demanded of modern upper-end subdivision housing.

Many of us long for a metal roof but are unable to pay the upfront cost to own one. While often more costly than some other steep-slope roofing options, metal roofing may be found less expensive when the entire life of the roof is considered. In the long run, installing a metal roof can be cheaper than an asphalt shingle one.

How is a metal roof energy efficient? When you install a metal roof it could help you save up to 40 percent on your cooling costs versus asphalt shingles! Why so much? A metal roof reflects sunlight, so your attic and overall roof temperatures are lower. Metal roofs last a lifetime, most have a contemporary appearance, and they save big bucks on energy bills by keeping homes cooler during sweltering months.
